We All Need a Home<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Conversations are held in English and Ukrainian with two-way consecutive interpretation, and with Ukrainian sign language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We all need a home \u2013 this idea is at the heart of  this year’s Filma program, This is an Address<\/em>. Within it, we’ve collected films that explore themes of vulnerability, support, and resilience. Their protagonists confront injustice daily, fighting for their right to housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ll join filmmakers Sasha Wortzel (This is an Address<\/em>) and Dara Kell (Dear Mandela<\/em>) for an online discussion of the universality of housing issues and how they can manifest in different environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 We will focus on the issue of homelessness and its “invisibility”. Drawing from the South African context, we will discuss why housing programs are not always successful and how vulnerable groups can assert their rights. Finally, we’ll consider the motivations behind films about the concept of home and explore ways to make them more empathetic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

Sasha Wortzel<\/strong> is a director who uses film, video art, installation, sculpture, and sound to explore how the past and present of the USA are inextricably linked through resonant spaces and their hauntings.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dara Kell<\/strong> is an award-winning writer and director from Cape Town. Her latest film, ‘A Ship From Guantanamo<\/em>,’ was acquired by New York Times Op-Docs and has been screened at film festivals around the world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
